The valley of the Meuse shelters the charming city of Dinant, a land of trade and legends, located at only 20 km from the French border. Dinant is the only city to have given its name to a craft ‘Dinanderie’, which is the art of working in copper. Adolphe Sax – inventor of the Saxophone, was born in this city. Dinant is dominated by the citadel which can be joined either by foot or by cable-car.
Once you’ll be on top of the rocks, you’ll enjoy a splendid view on this ‘Pearl of The Meuse’. The Furfooz nature park (5km from Dinant), where Palaeolithic and Neolithic caves mingle together with Roman and medieval vestiges will fascinate lovers of this kind of environment.
Other places to see are: the abbey of Leffe, the Brewery ‘Du Bocq’ in Purnode (11 km), ‘La Merveilleuse’, one of the most beautiful caves of Belgium, the Recreation Centre Mont-Fat – especially created for families. Dinant is also famous for its trips down the Lesse by canoe/kayak or cruises on the Meuse. In Rochefort you’ll discover estate of Malagne which was reconstructed around the foundations of the Gallo-Roman villa, the cave of Lorette-Rochefort and the vestiges of the Countal Castle that overhang on the old city and the Famenne.
